A Few Words

6 New Photographs

I have finally posted 6 photographs, black and white (treated lovingly in Photoshop) shot with my little Canon G10 Powershot.

You can view them in my Photography Portfolio

I hope you enjoy them.

Trip to Alberta - Some images forthcoming

A few weeks ago I spent a few days in Calgary, Alberta and the surrounds (the Rockies) with a friend and was able to get several hundred (or more) images with my little Canon G10. Okay its not pro gear, but I use pro software, so I am hoping I can present some cool and beautiful photos in the next week.

I have several from the batches that I want to process, and will post them up as soon as possible.

For those of you who do Web design regularly may find the following site very helpful: 960 Grid Systems.

New Site Soft Launch - Be Gentle

Well I have finally decided to launch the new site. It's still a ways away from being done, but for now I felt I needed to test it a bit and throw some visitors at it.

There are still a lot of styling issues to be resolved, so there will be changes and updates being made regularly through the next couple weeks.

10 Year Anniversary

It has just occurred to me that Steel Dolphin Creative has been around for 10 years now. Wow. It's amazing how that just made me feel even older than I am.

Back in time
Let's have a look back shall we? The year is 1999, times are brighter, Y2k is imminent, and photography is actually still an art form, before every jack-ass and his sister have digital cameras and a flickr account.

Things that happened in 1999:

  • Cher had the #1 hit of 1999 - Believe
Well Cher was never cool and probably never will be, but I thought it was interesting.

The Golden Ratio

There are examples of the Golden Ratio all around us – both man made and natural. Some examples are the nautilus shell, pinecones, the Parthenon, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and even the Apple iPod MP3 Player. The Golden Ratio is a ratio of elements within a form such as height and width that approximate 0.618.

The Attractiveness Bias

Well it is not hard to believe that attractive people are received with greater enthusiasm or positivity than unattractive people.

Attractive people generally get more attention from members of the opposite sex, and even from their mothers. A good looking person is more likely to get hired for a position if all things are equal compared to an unattractive candidate. This may be hard to swallow but it is in fact a result of both biological and environmental factors.

Quick Tips

Photoshop Paintbrush controls - Use the [ and ] (left and right square brackets) to increase (right) or decrease(left) brush tip size on the fly. One of the handiest keyboard short cuts for digital painters.

Sampling color on the fly in Photoshop - Using the eyedropper tool can be tedious for digital painting and other quick sampling needs. Use the ALT key (Windows) or the OPTION (Mac) key while you have a brush selected and the cursor changes to the eyedropper and does its thing...no switching of tools needed!

Fun with Tilde in Illustrator - Open a blank document in Illustrator, then pick a shape (square, circle, line etc.) then hold the tilde (~) key down and drag...fun...and cool.
